What can you expect from ROMAN HOLIDAY SUMMER STUDIES programme?

Roman Holiday Summer Studies represents a unique learning opportunity for students who wish to develop an appreciation for the liberal arts in the best tradition of travel abroad. In recent years, what we now call global education has evolved to incorporate a wide range of learning opportunities and educational experiences that expose students to some of the world's "cultural centres". Roman Holiday Summer Studies uses many traditional learning strategies like reading, writing, discussing and debating. A great deal of its organization and preparation brings together experienced teachers, motivated students, stimulating classroom activities and relevant guided tours with a liberal arts focus. Roman Holiday Summer Studies offers a dynamic combination of academic study and recreation surrounded by the natural beauty of Rome, Italy in a comfortable, air-conditioned 4 star hotel nestled in a residential neighbourhood.

The programme will offer credit courses again in the Eternal City from Monday, June 29 to Monday, July 27, 2020 with a week of classes prior to departure. Students will have the following credit courses to choose from: Grade 12 English (ENG4U – Ontario Secondary School compulsory credit), Grade 12 Studies in Literature (ETS4U), The Writer’s Craft (EWC4U), Classical Civilizations (LVV4U). Courses are approved Ministry of Education credits granted by De La Salle College and the Toronto Catholic District School Board. Please note for students interested in ENG4U, Roman Holiday Summer Studies reserves the right to recommend and approve only students who achieve good academic standing in the required prerequisite ENG3U (Grade 11 English). All other courses require no minimum overall average to apply. Applicants require the recommendation of their Grade 11 English or social science teacher or guidance counselor and the signature of the Principal on the Credit Course Registration Form

$6,000.00 will cover the cost of the trip, all tours and all excursions, not including cancellation insurance and out-of-pocket expenses. There are no hidden costs. In all cases, we will need a $1,500.00 deposit made out to “Roman Holiday Summer Studies” to process any application. As well, new travel guidelines require that passports are valid for three months prior to travelling to Italy.

Even at high schools that make ENG4U compulsory during the regular school year, Roman Holiday Summer Studies also offers a great opportunity to continue development of important literature and language skills by offering other writing course like Writer's Craft (EWC4U), Studies in Literature (ETS4U) and Classical Civilizations (LVV4U). Availability of these courses is subject to a minimum enrollment of four students. Unlike most travel programmes, RHSS delivers the same 110 hours of classroom instruction as any course in the regular academic year, something most other travel programmes do not offer. As soon as students register they can access course materials and readings, devoting their energies to developing the kinds of skills needed prior to entering their final year of high school. Past participants have commented on the comprehensive and thorough nature of the programme. Most agree it provides them with a fun-filled summer and a chance to improve critical skills necessary for success in high school and post-graduate studies.
